Currently, I am the Human Resource Director for a medical center. I have the pleasure of working with 11 dedicated, hardworking and awesome HR professionals. We come to work everyday to make a difference and we do. I stand behind and own everything I say.
Having said that, I need to be clear that this is a personal blog. It is my thoughts and ideas about HR - partly about providing HR leadership to an organization, partly about the nuts and bolts about what we do and partly about learning and growth. As with any profession, there are many daily challenges in HR. As with any other professional, I want to do more than "my job," I want to make a difference. I am smart enough to know that I cannot do that on my own.
I am all about trying to strike the perfect balance between work and family although "balance" really is a myth. It is not about balance at all. It is about setting priorities and having the fortitude to stick to them. Ah, so much easier said than done.
Why a blog? A very good friend of mine started a professional blog. I looked forward to reading her posts because, more often than not, the questions she raised and the issues she discussed were very similar to my own. I enjoy what I do but there are days (sometimes weeks) when I struggle to get beyond the mundane to find the meaning in it all. I struggle with balancing the day to day needs of managing a medical center HR Department with being able to provide the leadership and vision that I strive for. Reading Kim's posts provide my with an opportunity to put aside the next deadline for a few minutes and to get to a place where I am able to think about the bigger issues. The more I think about them, the more issues continue to rise to the surface. These issues are not completely new to me. I have thought about them before but I did not have a mechanism to move them forward. Before long, they were pushed aside for the next immediate task.
Blogging will provide me the opportunity to get the issues out there, to communicate with others who have similar concerns and different perspectives and to learn from them - please join me!
